Staff Spotlight: Madison Fulin
Madison Fulin, who recently joined Rapp Strategies as an Assistant Account Executive, brings a traditional agency background with experience in media relations, writing and editing, content creation, research and social media management. A 2022 graduate of University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a degree in Strategic Communications, she looks forward to diving into the world of public affairs.
“I am excited to work with such a wonderful team of hardworking individuals at Rapp Strategies,” Madison says. “Working with well-established clients across multiple industries reflects my aspirations as I progress in my professional career."
Prior to joining Rapp Strategies, Madison worked as a public relations coordinator at broadhead in Minneapolis. There, she aided the public relations initiatives of several of the nation’s leading transportation entities.
In her senior year of college, Madison’s team took first place in the American Advertising Federation (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition for their marketing and communications campaign for Meta.
She also worked as a social media manager for the University of Minnesota’s newspaper, MN Daily, where she crafted and scheduled engaging social media content and provided support to the publication’s media leadership team.
To continue her education and expand her professional skillset, Madison enrolled in a Professional MA in Strategic Communication program at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in the fall of 2023. During this two-year program, she will explore brand strategy, research methods, internal and external factors affecting communication, and much more.
“Joining Rapp Strategies gives me an opportunity to merge the knowledge acquired during my master’s program with the skills refined in my previous position. I'm eager to apply them on behalf of clients.”
What motivated you to pursue a career in strategic communications?
Growing up, I became the go-to resource for editing and proofreading my friends’ papers. Eventually, that extended into a love for writing and storytelling. Not until my sophomore year of college did I realize that I could turn those interests into a career. Amid some indecision surrounding what my major should be, a friend of mine told me about the strategic communications program in Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communications. I never looked back.
What is your favorite professional experience?
In my previous role, I loved coordinating print and broadcast interviews for clients. The fast-paced, timely nature of media relations kept me on my toes, and it was fun to see a client pitch to the media turn into a full-blown interview on television.
What is one habit that makes you more successful?
When proof-reading my own writing, I take a step away from a piece for a couple of hours or even an entire day before I come back to it. Errors are often more apparent when approached with a fresh perspective.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I changed my mind a lot! I remember wanting to become a teacher and as I got older, I liked the idea of working in the health care industry. However, that was quickly struck down when I realized I wasn’t as good at math or science.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
Being the first person in my family to earn a four-year undergraduate degree.
What is one thing about you few people know?
Until I was seven years old, I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. Even though I was young, I have very fond memories of my time there and would love to visit again soon.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
If you arrive somewhere on time, you’re late. Be early to everything, no matter what it is.
What is one piece of wisdom you would give your younger self?
Stop stressing so much about things you cannot control. Trust that everything will work out the way it should.
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
When I’m not working, I’m doing homework for grad school, at a yoga sculpt class at CorePower, reading, snuggling with my dog or catching up on the latest season of “True Detective.”
What is your favorite restaurant?
The Freehouse in North Loop!
